Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis: The EU must impose sanctions against airports in Belarus
Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis spoke by telephone with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and discussed the escalating tension on the EU-Belarus border. Landsbergis called for tightening the EU sanctions against the Belarusian regime and blacklisting the Belarusian airports that the regime used to organise irregular migration.
“Europe cannot delay any longer. The escalating tension on the Polish border is yet another proof that the Belarusian regime is already moving towards active offensive and provocative actions. Europe must react immediately and tighten its sanctions. We must impose sanctions against airports in Belarus. All airlines of the world should understand that they cooperate with the criminal regime by flying to Belarus," said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
Landsbergis also informed Borell that Lithuania maintained constant contact with Poland in resolving the crisis on the EU border.
