On 1 June in Tbilisi, Georgia, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas met with the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Head of the Georgia-Lithuania Friendship Group Maka Botchorishvili, and discussed Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

The Foreign Vice-Minister voiced Lithuania’s consistent support for Georgia’s EU integration aspirations — on 3 March, Georgia officially applied for EU membership and on 10 May, the country submitted its EU questionnaire. “We can see Georgia’s progress in implementing Association Agreement commitments, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. At this particular historical moment, it is necessary to reinforce Georgia’s clear choice based on values by accelerating reforms in the country, especially in the areas of the rule of law, media independence and democratic consolidation,” Adomėnas said.

Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister noted that the decision on granting the European perspective would be made by EU heads of state. “At a time when Ukraine is at the forefront, fighting for its freedom and democracy, clear steps in support of Ukraine will send an important political signal for both the fighting Ukraine and the supporting international democratic community,”  Adomėnas said.

The meeting also discussed the situation in the region and other practical issues of bilateral cooperation.
