On 12 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in a virtual STRATCOM Summit conference, which was organised by the Prague-based European Values Center for Security Policy. The Foreign Minister spoke in the main discussion on the European Union’s response to disinformation efforts of hostile foreign governments.

On 5 November, Lithuania officially submitted its application to host the European Commission to host the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC) in Vilnius. Lithuania is ready to provide a strategic and symbolic location for the ECCC – the premises of Vilnius TV Tower with an exceptional information technology (IT) communication infrastructure. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, Lithuania’s growing and active cyber and IT ecosystem would significantly contribute to a comprehensive and autonomous European Cybersecurity Competence Network.

On 31 October 2020, the citizens of Georgia were participating in electing a new parliament, which will be responsible for key decisions in the country over the next four years. We welcome Georgia in reforming the electoral system and conducting the election smoothly in difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. Voter turnout (56%) shows that despite the pandemic, the people of Georgia care about the country’s future.

On 22 October,  to mark the UN’s 75th anniversary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania held a virtual conference “The Future We Want, the United Nations We Need. Lithuania’s Contribution to Multilateralism”, aimed at encouraging the Lithuanian society, especially young people, to take an interest in the organisation's activities and efforts to maintain international peace and security, to tackle social exclusion, and to improve human rights situations.

On 24 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Stef Blok. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, the situation in Belarus and Ukraine,  the relationship with Russia, the security situation in the region, and topical items on the EU’s agenda.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that it has not issued a press release claiming that the Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius called on the EU to create European peacekeeping forces and deploy them to Belarus. It is highly likely that there is an ongoing cyber-information attack, which is currently under investigation by the Lithuanian authorities.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas sent a joint letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei, the Minister of Energy of Belarus Victor Karankevich, and the Minister of Emergency Situations of Belarus Vladimir Vashchenko, urging them not to start operating the nuclear power plant (NPP) in Belarus without eliminating the shortcomings of the facility.
